\n\nIn early October we received an email from a publicity company that were doing some promotion for a local train company about the attractions of Kent and East Sussex — and how great it is that you can just jump on a train and in no time be transported to a completely different part of the country. Part of this work was to record a podcast series featuring celebrities focusing on different aspects of the counties. One of them was going to be about walking and the countryside and they had comedian [Ed Byrne](https://edbyrne.com) (a keen walker) lined up to do that one. The idea was that he would be out on a walk from Margate to Broadstairs and he would by \"pure chance\" meet a few people along the way that he would then stop and chat to about different ways of enjoying the Kent countryside. \n\nThe idea was to talk about the huge variety of walking there is in Kent, the benefits of walking, why we do it and what it means to us, how people can get involved, something the work Ramblers does and how people might join if they want to. \n\nSo the arrangement was for me and some members from the white cliffs group to meet at the [Botany Bay Hotel](https://www.botanybayhotel.co.uk/) in Broadstairs and then \"walk and talk\". \n\nOn the day, the rain was absolutely torrential — so much so that we really couldn't start the interview as there was expensive recording equipment and fluffy microphones that would have got drenched! So instead we sat down at a table at the pub and chatted through most of the content in the dry. But we did end up doing some walking — you can see at the top of the page we went down into Botany Bay and Ed did some of the recording down there where he was taking in the wonderful chalky panorama from Whitness Tower on the right to Foreness Point on the left. \n\nThe interview itself went really well and everybody enthusiastically chipped in with their own stories about why it's so great to walk in Kent.
