Chilham walk

This a walk of around 12 miles, starting from Chilham, that explores the surrounding countryside, mostly to the north of the historic village.

This route commences over open countryside and fields, in the direction of Old Wives Lees, then onward to Rhode Common, where we pass through an area of woodland. Our usual short picnic lunch, will be taken at Chartham Hatch, before briefly joining the North Downs Way (NDW), at the start of the return leg back to Chilham.

The circuit leaves the NDW at the edge of Fright Wood, crossing the railway line and the A28 (Ashford Road), to join the Stour Valley Walk (SVW) at Thruxted Lane. It is then just a case of following the SVW, leaving it near Julliberre Downs, to drop down beside Chilham Mill. On arrival back at Chilham there is either the Woolpack or the White Horse for post walk refreshment.
